I recently did an easy tutorial for glittery nails over on The Glitter Guide, but as it has been such a constant in my winter beauty regime thus fur, it makes sense that I share one on here too. On grey and wintery days or during the holidays when you want your fingers to look as pretty as the decorations on the tree and the fireworks in the sky, there is nothing quite like the glint of glittery nails peeking out from a coat.

ThredUP: Digital Trading Post for Moms

In keeping with the clean it out, pass it along, clearing clutter mode at MommaJam, we’ve checked out thredUP, a modern day, digital trading post for moms.  ThredUP lets moms trade gently used clothes, toys and books with other moms from all over the country.

ThredUP is a green and economical way for parents to get rid of outgrown clothes, toys and books to make way for new things that are age appropriate.

You can join the community for free.  Boxes of pre-owned items start at $9 + shipping.  For every two boxes you share, you can get the next one free with cash back you receive by selling a box.  You can sort by age, clothing style, holiday, seasons, costumes – even designer labels.

For super-busy moms, thredUP has a Concierge Service.  Moms can order free bags, stuff them full of 50+ items and send them to thredUP’s expert consignors.  ThredUP sorts the bags, certifies quality and posts them online for other moms to buy.

Check out thredUP.com to join and start trading.

Get Organized: Tips to Declutter Right Now

These Shoes are Going to Goodwill

Clean the fridge, clean the pantry, clean your desk, clean your closet, clear your mind.  Get organized.  You’ll feel better.  This week on MommaJam is all about Getting Organized.

Donate and Recycle Gently Used Items, Trash the Rest

Make the time today to toss 10 things that you don’t use.  Do this every day to clear the clutter and make way for a positive chi in your life.

What better time to make way for the new than after the holidays and the start of a new year.  Pick one place in the house today to clean out.  Your closet.  Are shoes you don’t wear anymore collecting dust?  Maybe another gal can wear them.

Pass on shoes, clothes and accessories you don’t wear anymore to organizations the recycle them, such as Goodwill, the Vietnam’s Vet Association (VVA) and Big Brothers Big Sisters.  VVA will pick up at your doorstep and it takes second to schedule.

After you clean out the clutter, you’ll feel better and the space will look better.

Next, flip through a a few magazines to help you visualize what you want the clean space to look like and get to work.

Mom Style: Sleek Rain Boots for Everyday Chic

I can’t wait for it to rain.  Normally, I long for warm weather and sunshine everyday (nod to Southern California), but Rockport, the classic New England shoe company, has these sleek, gorgeous Lorraine Rain Boots with a wedge heel that are just aching for a puddle stomp.

Fortunately, Lorraine boots are stylish enough to wear everyday in any weather.  The just-below-the-knee-high boots are made of waterproof material that looks like shiny patent leather, and the heel has just enough lift that you can wear the boots all day long.

Rockport’s Lorriane Rain Boots are the ultimate “playground chic” footwear.  You can look stylish and chase the kids around without breaking your ankle or losing a heel in the mud.

Black Rockport Lorraine Boots

These boots are a great gift idea for moms in need a boot makeover this season.  They sell for $100, but shop around for better deals at Zappos or other online retail outlets.

Lorriane boots are available in all sorts of fabulous colors, including chrome metallic, pink, navy and coral, which looks more like sassy tangerine.  The best seller is the black option (see photos).

Rockport also makes quilted lace up and shorter just-above the-ankle versions of the Lorraine boot.

For a classic dress up boot (not for chasing kids in the snow), check out Rockport’s black suede Janae Bootie. Go to Rockport.com.

Fall Fashion: Romp in High Heeled Rain Boots

Why settle for drab rain boots when you can add style, color and height to your fall/winter wardrobe. These sleek, orange Lorraine Rainboots from Rockport are fun and add lift to your look.

Check Amazon and Zappos for great deals on Lorraine Rainboots, which also come in pink, black, and blue, but zesty orange shines on gray, rainy days.  About $100.  Go to Rockport.com for more information.

MommaJam on 95.9 WATD-FM: Spring Style Tips

Hear MommaJam on 95.9 WATD-FM discuss spring style tips for moms with the morning news team, Rob Hakala and Lisa Azizian.

 1.  Try the new organic Chocolate Sun self tanning lotion.  My friend, Joanna Flores, a make up artist in Los Angeles, is raving about this product.  There are no chemical ingredients and you get a healthy glow on your skin without baking for hours in the sun.  And, the smell is great.  Most tanning lotions have a weird smell, but this one is nice.  Remember, you still need to wear sunscreen when you self tan.

Joanna also suggests Sugar Rose Lip Gloss with SPF 15 from Fresh (at Sephora), which is great for spring and summer lips.  The gloss is a “tint,” so it goes on sheer unlike a matte or frost lipstick.   You can apply the gloss over a matte color to tone it down or wear it alone to add a simple shine to your lips.  The product also comes in Plum.

2.  I have some MAJOR  fashion news that is going to make every mom on the planet happy:

Low rise jeans are out!  High rise jeans are back in style, BUT with a wide leg AND a dramatic flair.

My fashion consultant, Katherine Venzke, who is the owner of Helena’s, a clothing boutique in Arlington has confirmed that moms can now sit down on the floor at the library and read a book to their child without showing their behind!

This style makes your legs look longer and holds your tummy in, which most moms need after popping out a few kids.  Skinny jeans are still popular, but the wide leg with a high waist is where it’s at right now.

For South Shore moms:  Boutiques are a great place to shop for unique cloths, and if you can’t get to Helena’s in Arlington from the South Shore, check out Bling Boutique in Braintree, which also carries wide leg high waisted jeans.

You can always go to Macy’s, Urban Outfitters or other department stores to get the look.  Below are Joe’s High-Waist, Wide Leg jeans at Sax Fifth Avenue.
