No New Year’s Resolutions – Kick Off 2011 By Being Yourself

This week’s radio podcast interview is with Sherri Kruger.  The topic is “No Resolutions for the New Year.”

Every January, the mass media has a top story on, “How to Be the New You in the New Year.”  Trying to become the “new you” is a headache and short lived.  It’s much healthier to “Just Be Yourself as You Are.”

When researching this topic, I found that it takes hard work and concentration to be yourself and satisfied with what you have.  You have to make time every day to focus on self acceptance.  During the interview, Sherri shares tips for being grateful, which is a terrific mindset to adopt for everyday living.  She suggest identifying three things everyday that you are grateful for and appreciating those things by writing them down. Slowly, your thinking and inner feelings will shift towards a more positive attitude.

Being satisfied with what you have and who you are doesn’t mean you should give up goals and not seek achievements.  It’s a different spin on success.  It’s focusing on the positive and self acceptance versus grasping and striving for meaningless things.  The idea is to balance goals and ambition with self-satisfaction.

Sherri also offers tips on being in the moment with your kids for a more enjoyable day.  Check out the radio podcast above and let us know how you are doing with your kids.

Did you toss New Year’s Resolutions out the window and opt for a less grasping year?  Send a comment with your feedback.

Sherri is a work-at-home mom to two young boys and has been married to her high school sweetheart for 13 years.  She left her career as a geneticist to pursue her passion of helping people to live a simpler and more purposeful life.  Sherri writes at Zen Family Habits, which she co-founded with Leo Babauta of Zen Habits fame, and Serene Journey.

You can purchase Sherri’s Gratitude Journal online for $5.95.  Check it out here!
