Halloween Candy Aftermath: Great Tips for Ditching the Milk Duds

The aftermath of Halloween is candy, candy, candy, candy wrappers, more candy.  Get creative and get rid of the candy!  Here are tips for ditching the milk duds:

1.  Donate to Halloween Candy Buyback programs where local dentists buy candy from kids and send it to Operation Gratitude, which sends candy to our military troops.  Most dentists have completed the program, but enter your zip code on the Halloween Candy Buyback program website and see what’s still available.  Or, you can send it directly yourself.

The Red Cross also sends candy, plus holiday cards, to troops.  I like this program because it encourages kids to make thoughtful and meaningful notes for the troops and will continue for upcoming holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

2.  Donate the candy to your local food pantry.

3.  Toss it.  Yup, just toss it.  At an opportune time, throw out the candy little by little or give it the heave ho all at once.  If this seems harsh, ask the kids to pick out their faves and buy back the rest just like the program above.  Then toss it.  It’s time to move on to the next holiday, Thanksgiving!
