Zuzee Launches for Tween Girls

Today’s MommaJam features an interview with Shelley Voyer, the co-founder of Zuzee, a new web site launching today that lets tween girls, ages 8 to 12, create online storybooks, photo albums, pages and cards with digital photographs of their friends and family.

Zuzee features numerous pre-set designs that girls select for their storybook or photo album.  Then, they drag and drop photos from the photo library on their computer to create all sorts of wonderful memory books.

The creators of Zuzee wanted the online environment to be safe for kids – it’s closed off to the public and only “approved friends” can share photos and information.  Artistic users can scan original artwork in as a JPEG file and then drag and drop the artwork into Zuzee.  Very cool, if kids want to personalize an album or message to a friend or family member or capture a memory of an event in a unique way.

“Girls take a lot of photos, but don’t know what to do with them,” said Voyer.  Zuzee is a great way to add pizzazz to the whole photo-taking process.  Even adults take tons of photos of special occasions only to have them sit in an electronic file.  Zuzee lets kids use photos as a means of expression that’s fun and engaging.  Many of the pre-set books within Zuzee have a journal page, so girls can write about important moments in their life, like a big swim meet, school concert or vacation.

Zuzee is safe for the tween age group it is targeting.  It’s a closed environment, with no Facebook plugins.  Parents must sign and submit a permission form (free, if they mail in the paper copy; $.99, if they use credit card confirmation), and approve direct friends and designs being shared.  Parents are also linked, so they can casually observe what’s going on; they don’t have to sneakily log on as their child and inspect what photos are being exchanged.

Overall, Zuzee is meant to be a creative, fun environment for kids – and that’s just what it is.   The colors and designs are modern and jazzy, and sure to inspire lots of girls.

Starting today, Zuzee is offering a free introductory trial for the next three months, where girls can get an All Access Z Pass for extra designs, special user icons, gifts and an unlimited catalogue of personal designs.  After the introductory period, members can continue enjoying the All Access Z Pass with an annual subscription for $39.95 or $4.99 per month.  Or, girls can use the Basic membership free, which lets them build a profile, upload photos, and save up to three designs.
