Get the instant replay of the live MommaJam Minute feature on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, on 95.9 WATD-FM radio with Rob Hakala and Lisa Azizian.

Last week, I did a feature interview with Alexandra Morrill, the founder of Laughing Giraffe Books.com, an online bookstore.  You can buy themed book bundles or a book of the month collection for boys and girls ages 0 to 8.

Alexandra has a love of children’s books and a background in children’s literacy.  She has lot of tips for getting kids involved in reading.  One tip is for parents to read with animation, so kids get into the character they are hearing about in stories.  During this live MommaJam Minute, Rob, Lisa and I get a little wacky with Star Wars sound FX.  Tune in above to join the fun, have some laughs, and get inspired to read with your kids.

Alexandra also provides great advice for starting a book club, particularly with hard-to-reach boys or girls.

Another tip:  check out the reference guide, The Kids’ Book Club Book.  This book is full of recipes and activities paired with top book club titles.  Check it out at The Kids Book Club Book.com.

Good Reads.com is the largest social network for readers in the world with more than 3 million users on the site.  You can join a virtual book club or find one that you can go to in person.  Within GoodReads.com, you can drill down by location.  For South Shore readers, type in The South Shore Readers, which is an existing group that meets online or in person in Braintree.  A lot of new moms go to the book club meetings with babies, which is a great way to turn tots into future readers.  The site also welcomes new writers who can submit their work and have people review it.

For people who like browsing in bricks and mortar, Front Street Book Shop in Scituate has a charming kids section, and Pat, the owner, will order what ever you need.

Of course, getting a library card is important for every child or teenager.

Tune in every other Thursday to the MommaJam Minute on 95.9 WATD-FM at 7:10 a.m.

Happy reading!
